FAQs
Visas and Passports: You must have a passport to cross into Mexico. If you have a non-US passport, please check with your or Mexico’s consulate in San Diego for required visas. Passports must be valid for at least 6 months. You may be required to fill out a visa if crossing by foot, please retain it for exit.
Sentri/Border crossing: The San Ysidro border is notorious for 3+ hour waits, thus we’ll cross by foot a 5-90 minute wait. Those with Sentri passes will split off and proceed as normal through the border, all others will get into the appropriate line to cross.
Pesos: Get your Mexican Pesos before you leave. You’ll need roughly $150 US for each day of your visit.
Exchange Rate: As of April 2026, the Peso (MXN) was 1=.057 US dollars, or $17 MXN for every $1 US. Rates change daily.
Customs: You are allowed to bring 1 bottle of wine or spirits across the border ever 30 days. Border patrol will confiscate any excess. No fruit can be crossed over.
Timing: We’re going to leave early and get home late, roughly 14 hours. Plan accordingly.
Dress Code: Think LA-ranch fancy, summer party Ralph Lauren… Northern Mexicans dress fancier on the weekend than we do. Expect to see lots of suit coats, linen pants, and dresses.
Hand Sanitizer: While we will have some hand sanitizer available, it is a good idea to bring some with.
Water: We will have complimentary water during our transits to and from the border. Most of the venues we will visit will have bottled water available. Note, if you are concerned about water quality in Mexico, please ask for ‘no ice’.
